Will Cyborg Make Weight?

By LaDonna Williams

This Saturday, UFC 95 will take place in Brazil. It will be on FS1 at 6pm central time. UFC fans will see Cris Cyborg fight Lina Lansberg in the main event. Cyborg needs to make weight (140 lbs.) by Friday’s weigh in. She needs to cut 20 lbs. to be exact. Her nutritional consultant George Lockhart has decided for her to use birth control to cut the weight. This is one of the first times that the UFC has heard about the method being used. The public was put aware of this by Cyborg posting her training video on YouTube. The UFC is monitoring the situation very closely.

Back to the fight, Cyborg vs Lansberg maybe a good fight. Lansberg will be making her UFC debut on Saturday. She is a Muay Thai style fighter and a great striker. She isn’t the greatest wrestler so her take down game isn’t the best. She maybe one of the best strikers that Cyborg has faced in a while. With that being said I don’t know how she will beat Cyborg on Saturday. This fight may end up in an early KO by Cyborg. We all know Cyborg is a beast in striking, take downs, wrestling and kicks.

Other fights on the main card are Renan Barao vs. Philippe Nover, Roy Nelson vs. Antonio Silva, Francisco Trinaldo vs. Paul Felder, Thiago Santos vs. Eric Spicely, and Godofredo Pepey vs. Mike de la Torre.

The Wait is Over- UFC 203

By LaDonna Williams

This Saturday is UFC 203 PPV. The one fight that everyone that is expecting to see isn’t even the main fight. Fans want to see CM Punk, former WWE star, make his UFC debut. His fans have been waiting for this fight for a long time now. Now that the fight is actually going to take place we all want to see how well he can do. Will he knock out Mickey Gall or will he get knocked out? Mickey Gall hasn’t been in the UFC that long either his professional record just being 2-0. Both men have Jiu-jitsu fighting styles.

Now on the main event of the PPV. The main fight is a heavyweight match between (C) Stipe Miocic vs (3) Alistair Overeem. Overeem has been fighting for a very long time with a professional record of 41-14-0. Some may think his career wasn’t going to go anywhere after he failed a drug test at UFC 146. Well, those who thought that were wrong, he has a hot hand, since losing to Travis Browne in 2013. He has only lost one fight  and showing the world he is back where he belongs Miocic, the champion, has a professional record of 15-2-0. He has been quietly making his way up to the top. He also has been hot during his last few fights. Especially with a big win over Fabricio Werdum to win the belt. This fight should be a great fight for heavyweight class.

Another match on the card is (1) Fabricio Werdum (20-6-1) vs (6) Travis Browne (18-4-1). This match is another heavyweight match. The last time these two had a match against each other Werdum beat Browne by unanimous decision. That fight Browne was out matched the whole fight by Werdum. Since that fight Browne record is 2-2, and for Werdum it is 2-1. This fight for Browne is all about redemption for the last fight these two had against each other.

There will also be a bantamweight fight on the card and that is between (2) Urijah Faber (33-9) vs (12) Jimmie Rivera (19-1). Faber, the 37-year old, is starting to slow down because of his age. Fans thought he was going may retire after his last loss vs Cruz that happened in June. Well, that didn’t happen. He is still here fighting. Rivera on the other hand has a good record and hasn’t been in the UFC that long with a record of 3-0. He is just an average fighter, but he is underrated. This fight might not be a great fight to watch, which is the sad part.

Last match on the main card is (6) Jessica Andrade (14-5) vs (7) Joanne Calderwood (11-1). This fight between these two women should be a great fight. Andrade, is known for her ground and pound game. She has just recently moved down to strawweight to fight, because of her size.  On the other hand, Calderwood is known for her striking and Muay Thai. This match could go either way.

My predictions for this card:

Calderwood over Andrade

Rivera defeats Faber

Werdum over Browne

Miocic over Overeem

Punk loses to Gall.

McGregor by Decision

by LaDonna Williams

The fight that UFC fans have been waiting for, McGregor vs Diaz part 2. The first match, Diaz took the fight against McGregor in a 11-day notice and won. Now part two, many people thought Diaz was going to knock out McGregor again.

The first round went to McGregor because of his knock downs. During round two and three it was all Diaz. McGregor at this point looked very sluggish and taking deep breathes. At this point I just knew Diaz was going to knock him out. That knock out never happened. This fight never got on the ground, because we all know if it did Diaz would have won the fight.

This fight did go the distance, all five rounds. The decision came down to; one official had the fight as a tie. The other two went to McGregor. That means McGregor won by split decision. After the fight Diaz said “Fu*k that, I came here to fight, McGregor should have knocked me out.” He asked for fight three right after the fight ended. “If Diaz wants a trilogy it has to be on my terms, Diaz to come down to 155 lbs.”

Will there be a part 3 to this rivalry? Come on Dana and get this into the works.

UFC 202 is Coming.

On August 20th, UFC pay per view will be here. The fight the fans have been waiting for is Nate Diaz vs Connor McGregor 2.

For the people who don’t know what happened in the first fight, McGregor lost his belt to Diaz during that fight. Diaz won the fight by submission. Everyone watching the fight wasn’t expecting that outcome. This fight that is about to take place, is redemption for McGregor. Do I think McGregor will lose again, no, but he can’t take Diaz lightly. Neither fighter has fought since their last match that took place in March.

The main fight isn’t the only match fans are excited to see.

On this fight card there are several other fights that should be great. The co-main event on pay per view is #2 Anthony Johnson vs #3 Glover Teixeira.

This fight is the first fight for Johnson since his injury. This matchup should be great as both men are awesome strikers. We may see some jiu-jitsu from Teixeira. From Johnson we may see some kickboxing and wrestling moves.

My prediction for this match up; Johnson wins by decision.Another fight that is on the undercard is #10 Rick Story vs #14 Donald Cerrone. This fight should be interesting because these two men have completely different fighting styles.

Rick Story used to wrestle in college, so those moves play a big part in his fighting style. As well, he is a great boxer, who is known to be very strong. Cerrone, on the other hand, is a great kick boxer (that is how he started an amateur career) than later on learned may say, jiu-jitsu, and boxing.

Both men have won their last two fights, so we know what that means. Someone has to lose, but the question is, “who?”

There are several other fights that are on this pay per view, but these three are the ones I know a lot of fans are truly interested in.

There is a woman’s fight on this card, it is #8 Raquel Pennington vs Elizabeth Phillips. I truly feel this might be an upset fight, because Phillips knockout percentage is very high.

In conclusion, I have a strong feeling this pay per view will be better than UFC 200, which I was kind of disappointed in.

There are a lot of great matchups that the fighters are almost exactly the same in so many ways or they are completely different. I will be glued in that Saturday night waiting for the excitement.

Your New Welterweight Champion

By LaDonna WIlliams

Last night UFC 201 was a better fight card than I originally thought it would be. There were few knock outs during the prelims fights. One fight that needs to be watched in case you missed it, was Matt Brown vs Jake Ellenberger. Ellenberger laid a massive kick to Brown in the liver. That match lasted only 40 seconds. Brown has to be feeling the effects of that kick today.

Now to the main event, Robbie Lawler (C) vs Tyron Woodley (4). This is Woodley first chance at a title fight since being in the UFC. His last chance was in strike force in 2012. Both men workout and train in Coconut Creek, FL. When it comes to the matchup between these two fighters, they are almost the same. One big difference is Lawler’s experience (27-10) is much longer than Woodley’s career (15-3). Lawler, who’s fighting style is more mixed martial arts. Woodley is more of a freestyle fighter with some wrestling moves mixed in.

The fight started with both men trying to read each other out. Lawler knows that Woodley is known for his speed and quick hands. It didn’t take long for Woodley to land a strong right hand to Lawler face, and down went the champ. Woodley kept striking him until the ref called the fight. The fight lasted 2:12. Now UFC has a new Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley
