has been turning heads for a Packers squad that is intent on resting their starters.
Joe Callahan has been quietly but steadily moving the Packers offense down up and down the field this preseason. His determination, strong arm and consistent leadership have helped Green Bay’s management determine their depth at receiver while Aaron Rodgers mainly watches from the sideline.
The Division III standout who passed for over 5,000 yards and 55 touchdowns in his senior year, was locked out of a college pro day but is getting his chance to show off on a much bigger stage, as he attempts to earn a spot on an NFL roster.
While leading the Packers to 3 victories so far this preseason, he has completed 41 passes, on 64 attempts for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns. The most impressive stat however, is that the QB who is facing much more difficult competition than he did at Wesley College, in Dover, Delaware, has yet to throw an interception.
He grabbed the Packers attention with a 50 yard bullett for a touchdown while running to his right and getting hit by a defender, which was just one clip on a college highlight film put together by one of his coaches, but what will keep their attention and possibly earn him a spot on a practice squad, is his ability to put together a 12 play, 80 yard drive, right before halftime against and NFL defense and cap it off with a touchdown pass.
I know what you are thinking, and I agree that not everyone who shines in preseason will continue their success in the regular season.
However, for Joe Callahan, this may just may be his Super Bowl, and he is playing with the heart of a Champion.
